StarYa ("Starya," "Service," "we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service, you consent to the practices described below.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
Information You Provide
- Account Details: Email address and date of birth (required for numerology and astrology calculations)
- Full Birth Name: Optional. Used only for name-based numerology (Expression, Soul Urge, Personality). Never shown publicly and never placed on a share card
- Birth Time, Birth Place, Coordinates & Timezone: Optional. Used to calculate your Rising sign, houses, angles and exact Moon degree. Without them we withhold those placements rather than estimate them
- Display Name & Avatar: The only profile fields other users can ever see
- Journal Entries: Personal reflections you choose to save. Journal text is only sent to AI when you switch AI analysis on — it is off by default
- Journal Sharing Preferences: Your opt-in choices for whether journal titles, moods, tags or summaries may be included in AI guide context
- AI Chat History: Conversations with the AI guide, stored in your account and synced across your devices
- Newsletter Subscription: Email address when you opt in to our cosmic newsletter
- Community Content: Posts, replies, and emoji reactions you submit through StarYa Social & Updates
- StarSync Data: Compatibility results and saved comparisons linked to your profile
- Phone Number: If you opt in to SMS daily insights, we collect your mobile number
Information Collected Automatically
- Usage Data: Pages visited and features used, collected only after you consent to analytics, with identifiers scrubbed
- Device Information: Browser type, operating system, and screen size
- Session Data: Authentication tokens and session identifiers
- Daily Streaks: Check-in dates used to maintain your streak counter and optional reminders
- Push Notification Tokens: If you enable push notifications, we store your subscription endpoint and encryption keys
- Error Reports: Redacted diagnostic logs used to fix faults; personal details are stripped before storage
Payment Information
All payment data is processed exclusively through Stripe's PCI-compliant infrastructure. We store only your Stripe customer ID and subscription status — never your full card number, CVV, or billing address. If you sign up for a 7-day free trial, your payment method is collected at registration but is not charged until the trial period ends.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Calculate your numerology profile — Life Path, Expression, Soul Urge, Personality, Birthday and Attitude numbers
- Calculate your natal chart, current transits, and today's sky
- Generate your Cosmic Blueprint, the combined astrology-and-numerology synthesis
- Build your Cosmic Timeline™ — your personal years, lunar events, portal dates, Chinese zodiac years, transits and milestones, derived from the birth details you already provided (no additional data is collected)
- Deliver daily, monthly, and yearly cycle forecasts, moon phases and portal dates
- Power the AI guide with your labelled results and any context you have opted into sharing
- Calculate StarSync compatibility scores and store your saved comparisons
- Display your community posts, replies, and reactions in StarYa Social & Updates
- Maintain your journal, Reflection Rhythm and daily streaks
- Process subscription payments and manage billing
- Send push notifications, SMS daily insights, and newsletters — only where you have opted in
- Respond to support inquiries and feedback
- Improve and optimise the Service using consent-gated, de-identified analytics
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or unauthorized access
4. Legal Basis for Processing
We process your personal data based on:
- Contract Performance: To deliver the Service you've subscribed to
- Consent: For marketing emails and optional data collection (e.g., birth hour)
- Legitimate Interest: To improve our Service, prevent fraud, and ensure security
- Legal Obligation: To comply with applicable laws and regulations
5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to safeguard your data, including encryption in transit (TLS/SSL), secure database storage with row-level security policies, and regular security reviews. While no system is 100% secure, we are committed to protecting your information to the highest practical standard.
6. Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information — ever.
We may share limited data with:
- Payment Processor (Stripe): To handle subscription billing securely
- SMS Provider (Twilio): To deliver opt-in SMS daily insights to your phone number
- Email Provider: To send transactional and opted-in marketing email from notify.starya.io
- AI Model Providers: Requests are routed through our gateway. Interpretation features such as the Cosmic Blueprint receive only finished, labelled results (for example "Sun in Leo" or "Life Path 7") — not your birth time, birth location, or full birth name. The AI guide chat additionally receives your profile context because it answers open questions about your own chart; if you would rather not share that, every other reading works without it. Providers are not permitted to use your content to train their models
- Legal Authorities: When required by law, court order, or to protect our rights and safety
- Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with prior notice to you

7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information via your account settings
- Deletion: Request deletion of your data (subject to legal retention requirements)
- Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Restriction: Request that we limit processing of your data in certain circumstances
- Objection: Object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Opt-Out: Unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time via the link in each email

9. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required for legal, accounting, or fraud prevention purposes. Anonymized and aggregated data may be retained indefinitely for analytics and service improvement.
10. International Data Transfers
Your data may be processed and stored in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your information to these locations. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
11. Children's Privacy
The Service is not intended for individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If we discover that a child has provided us with personal data, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a minor has submitted information to us, please contact us immediately.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, by email notification. Your continued use of the Service after any update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
